THE ILLUSTRATED CAFE

The Illustrated Cafe was a project that opened for three months (during Covid) in the front gallery of the Acadiana Center for the Arts… it made quite an impact

The cafe was a chance for everyone to experience and interact with an art installation. Selfies were encouraged and much fun was had.

Included in the cafe were a downtown map, with postcards to many businesses, a piano for community sing-a-longs, ever-changing-displays (including a snowman that visited for Christmas) that encouraged multiple visits. There was also a mouse art exhibition, and some hidden mice, cupckes, a roaring fire and lots of tiny delights to be discovered.

it was built to especially encourage those who don’t usually walk into an Arts Center and created to make them feel instantly at home.

The cafe was funded firstly by an Artspark Grant from Lafayette Economic Development Authority and Acadiana Center for the Arts which helped build a scene, we then were generously sponsored by Advancial Credit Union and a number of downtown businesses who featured on postcards and on the map.
